After years of exhibitions and auctions of his works in Nigeria, Ojukwu relocated to South Africa to be reinspired by the people and culture of the land. In 2017, Ojukwu participated in a successful exhibition titled “Art In The Garden” at the Alice Art Gallery in Roodepoort, South Africa. Ojukwu’s next work to follow comes after careful and lengthy introspection into himself and his place in the world. The result of his finding came a series of artworks with each telling a distinct story.
Born and raised in Enugu State, Nigeria to lecturers of the historically renowned University of Nigeria, Ojukwu devoted himself from an early age to learning and harnessing his skills and talents in arts. A talent for creating art runs in his family as one of his earliest memories in the 90s is listening to his father make beautiful music with his guitar. Ojukwu spent his childhood travelling across Nigeria with his parents and siblings, taking in the culture around him. To this day, those long drives continue to inspire his work.
After earning a Bachelor’s in Fine and Applied Arts, majoring in Metal Design, Computer-aided Design and Graphics, and finally Painting from the University of Benin in Nigeria, Ojukwu goes on to create work as the artist that inspired him did. Ojukwu identifies prolific artists Uche Okeke, El Anatsui and Krydz Ikwuemesi as great influences on him as a young artist.
Ojukwu cites his experience as an inquisitive twelve-year-old peeping through the window to Krydz Ikwuemesi create his ink drawings. At the time, Ikwuemesi was still a student at the University of Nigeria in Nsukka.
Art Exhibition details are to be announced soon.
